Embroidery as an Abstract Workshop with Stewart Easton [at MIZU-IRO]
ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
This workshop explores the connection between hand embroidery, abstraction and conscious awareness. During your class you will create an abstract form which will be filled with freeform hand stitch. The participants will be encouraged to remove narrative from their work to enable a conscious connection to the process of repletion, colour and form.
During the session you will be encouraged to work with an abstract form of your own design, freeform stitch and a non narrative based image. You will be free of the expected notion and pressure of creating an image or a likeness. This method of conscious stitching enables you to be fully present and experience the ‘slowing movement’ of time.
At the close of the session you will be free to take your created piece with you.
Stewart will bring examples of his abstract embroideries for reference.
No previous experience is necessary as you will be working with a simple freeform stitch.
All materials will be provided.
Please bring a pen and paper for drawing your design.
